What our warehouse insulation work includes
- Metal roof deck. A liner system or closed-cell foam applied under the steel deck controls condensation and reduces heat transfer across the roof's full area.
- Exterior wall panels. Insulation between the exterior wall's structural girts, or a liner system behind metal wall panels, reduces heat transfer through the building's perimeter.
- Dock door and dock seal areas. Insulating and sealing around the dock frame and door track reduces air leakage at the point where the building envelope opens repeatedly for truck traffic throughout the day.
- Wall between conditioned and unconditioned zones. Insulation in the wall separating an office, break room, or staging area from the main storage volume limits heat transfer between the two different conditions.
New construction and retrofit coordination
On new warehouse construction, roof deck and wall insulation goes in as the metal building structure and panels go up, coordinated with the steel erector before the roof and wall panels close in. Dock door openings are framed and insulated around as those bays are built, ahead of dock leveler and seal installation by other trades. Where the building includes a conditioned office or staging area within a larger unconditioned shell, the separating wall is insulated as that interior area is framed, following the same sequence as the exterior envelope.
In an operating warehouse, insulation work is scheduled around the facility's shipping and receiving activity, since forklift traffic, staging, and dock doors stay in use throughout the day. Roof deck work is staged from lifts working section by section, so the floor below can keep operating where the racking and aisles allow. Dock door and seal work is done bay by bay, with one door out of service at a time. Wall insulation near conditioned office space is scheduled around whichever hours that area is occupied.
Access, phasing, and safety on site
- Access. Roof deck and upper wall work runs from aerial lifts, and dock door work is staged from ground level bay by bay.
- Phasing. Work moves zone by zone or bay by bay so forklift traffic, staging, and shipping and receiving can continue in the areas not currently being worked.
- Safety. High-bay work near racking and roof decks is done from aerial lifts with fall protection.
