Is open-cell or closed-cell better for commercial buildings?+
It depends on the assembly. Closed-cell is denser, holds a higher R-value per inch, and resists moisture, which is why it goes on metal buildings, roof decks, and anywhere condensation is a risk. Open-cell is lighter, cheaper, and better at sound, so it tends to land in interior walls and conditioned space.
When is spray foam not the right choice?+
When a cheaper system does the same job. A standard framed office wall with good access is usually fiberglass or batt territory. Foam also will not fix a roof that leaks or steel that is already rusting, and if the surface cannot be cleaned and dried, it should not be sprayed at all.
Why is spray foam used on metal buildings?+
Steel moves heat fast and sits below the dew point often, so it sweats. Closed-cell foam sticks directly to the deck, seals it, and keeps the steel surface warm enough to stop condensation forming, all in one pass across a large span.
Can spray foam be installed in an occupied facility?+
Yes, but it takes planning. We isolate the work zone, mask equipment and finishes, run ventilation during and after the pour, and agree a re-entry time with your facility and safety teams before we start.
What preparation does spray foam require?+
The substrate has to be reachable, reasonably clean, and dry. We mask off equipment, lighting, and adjacent finishes first, because cured foam does not come off easily once it is on something.
Does spray foam help with energy codes?+
It helps on two fronts at once: continuous air sealing and R-value per inch. That combination is often what gets a metal building or roof deck over the envelope target without adding thickness you do not have room for.
