What our metal building insulation work includes
- Standing-seam or screw-down metal roof panels. Faced fiberglass blanket run continuous over the purlins under the panel controls both heat transfer and condensation on the underside of the panel itself.
- Metal wall panels between girts. Blanket held with long-tab banding or a liner system insulates the wall cavity while keeping the panel from compressing the insulation flat against the steel.
- Occupied space inside a metal building. A liner system under the roof and wall insulation gives the interior a finished surface suited to occupied use rather than just storage or shop space.
- Buildings with elevated interior humidity. A continuous, well-lapped vapor-retarder facing is more important here because condensation risk on the steel rises as interior moisture levels rise.

Projects we scope differently
- A framed commercial building with drywall and stud walls does not use metal-building blanket or liner systems; batt, fiberglass, or foam suited to a framed cavity is the relevant approach there.
- Insulating structural steel members for fireproofing purposes is a separate fire-protection system, not the thermal blanket or liner work covered on this page.
- A metal building with an active roof leak needs the leak found and fixed first; wet blanket insulation is generally removed rather than dried and reused in place.
New construction and retrofit coordination
On new construction. On a new metal building, blanket typically goes in as the roof and wall panels are erected, laid over the purlins or girts and banded or held with a liner system before the exterior panel closes over it. We coordinate with the building erector's sequence so the blanket, facing laps, and any liner panel are installed and sealed section by section as the steel goes up, not after the shell is already closed.
In an existing metal building, we assess the current blanket or liner from inside, and from roof access or lift work outside, checking for compression, tears, sagging, or moisture damage. Depending on condition, we add a liner system over existing blanket, replace damaged sections, or install a new system where none exists. Work is done from inside where possible to avoid disturbing the exterior roof and wall panels.
Access, phasing, and safety on site
- Access. Roof-side work needs roof access or an aerial lift, while interior work happens from ladders, lifts, or scaffolding depending on the building's clear height.
- Safety. Working near or on a metal roof, and using lifts for high wall and ceiling work, requires fall-protection measures appropriate to the height involved.
- Phasing. Retrofit work in an occupied metal building is broken into sections so racking, equipment, or activity below can shift out of the work area section by section.
- Fire-rated facings and barriers. Exposed facings on metal-building blanket need a facing rated for exposure rather than an unrated kraft facing, particularly where the blanket or liner stays visible in occupied interior space.
